NB School Districts 2, 8 & 11

School District 2 was a leading partner for the Sistema NB Prototype program in 2009-10. The experience was and continues to be a very positive one, and an essential part of the early success of the program. The NBYO Board of Directors endorses such partnership in the development of future centers in New Brunswick.

New Brunswick Schools have a strong, positive reputation for working in partnership with community groups. Every school is a little different, with programs and initiatives that reflect the community they serve as well as the interests and passion of the students. This is a model very complementary to Sistema programs.

Certain schools in the province are designated by the Minister of Education, as Community Schools. A Community School fosters relationships that transform a traditional school into a centre of opportunity for children, youth, families and communities. When a community school is established, parents, businesses and community members work in partnership with educators to support schools as centers of learning for their communities by leveraging the physical, intellectual and cultural resources in the community around them. A community school acts to strengthen the sense of community by serving as a hub of community activity and development. Each of these schools has a plan in place to grow initiatives that will support students, families and the greater community.

The NBYO – Sistema NB program will be just such an innovative, community-based program, located in Community Schools in the province. Partnership with School Districts will include:

  • Dedicated space with space to grow
  • Assistance in orienting schools, Principals and teachers from selected schools regarding the Sistema NB program
  • Assistance in recruiting/selecting participants
  • Community school staff support and collaboration
  • Transportation for students
  • Assistance in identifying local and regional support for the Sistema NB program in the school
